Frequently asked questions

What is a crypto SIP?

A crypto SIP (systematic investment plan), also called DCA (dollar-cost averaging), means buying a fixed amount of a coin at regular intervals, for example ₹1,000 of Bitcoin every month, instead of investing a lump sum at once.

Is a SIP better than a lump sum?

Neither is always better. A SIP spreads your buys over time, so you buy more coins when prices are low and fewer when they are high, which reduces the risk of investing everything at a peak. A lump sum does better when prices rise steadily after you invest. The calculator shows both for the same total amount.

What is XIRR?

XIRR is the yearly return of a series of investments made on different dates. It's the standard way to measure SIP returns in India, because each instalment is invested for a different length of time.

Where do the prices come from?

Daily closing prices in US dollars from Binance, going back to 2017 for most coins. Rupee amounts are converted at today's USD/INR rate, so actual rupee returns differ slightly.

How is SIP profit taxed in India?

Crypto gains are taxed at a flat 30% plus 4% cess when you sell, however long you held, and 1% TDS can be deducted on the sale. Each instalment's cost is deducted from its own sale value. Use our crypto tax calculator for details.
